The first New York outpost of the Israeli cafe chain Aroma has closed, reported Haaretz

The Aroma location in Soho opened eleven years ago on Houston Street and Greene Street, and was popular among local NYU students, tourists, and others looking for a good cup of coffee, tasty, inexpensive fare, and a congenial atmosphere.

Though business was good, this branch of Aroma, which was owned by the Israeli parent company, wasn't able to afford the recently raised rent that was demanded by their Israeli-Ameircan landlords, the Ashkenazy Acquisition Corporation.

There remain three Aroma locations, which are franchises, in Manhattan: on the Upper West Side, in Midtown East, and in the Financial District.
